Who owns the newspapers and TV
stations in your country? Do you think this has an effect on the news that you
hear?
people do digest the information differently when they listen to different TV stations or they read different kind of newspapers. Malaysia has many different companies of TV station but the most dominant stations are Media Prima, RTM which is 100% government and Astro which is a pay TV service. They way people react when they tune in the channels is very different. when we talk about RTM. From what I see, government channels always show news about government, citizen issues many politic related stuff. when people want to about politics, many they will watch RTM rather other channels. Media Prima focus more on entertainment. they show a lot of drama, soap opera, movies and the most popular shows, news about entertainment. that really make the TV station famous.
newspapers have almost the same methods to deliver the news. but newspaper is open business, from what I see, newspaper is like a politic wars. the government have they own newspaper, the opposite party have they own newspapers. So they critic and use newspaper to bash each other. So it is up the reader to judge.
and as usual. the most famous newspaper in malaysia the tabloid. although they do put general news about flood, tropical storm but they focus more on entertainment. that is what our people really care about
